Nexight Group is happy to welcome Sarah Beckhart Coppinger to the team as a new Associate. Sarah has an MA from Columbia University and strong professional interest in government and public policy. We sat down with Sarah to ask her a few questions about herself, her views, and her new role at Nexight.
Q: Tell us a little about yourself.
A: I am about to complete a PhD in History from Columbia University focusing on security and public health in Mexico. I am a specialist in the history of Mexican drug policy and drug use among minors. I also worked as a history instructor while I was attaining my PhD. I am now excited to learn about some of the major challenges facing the United States today, particularly cybersecurity, economic development, and climate change.
I grew up in Mexico City and am excited to explore the D.C. area. So far, I have enjoyed running the Mount Vernon trail and indulging in the delicious food scene here.
Q: Why did you decide to join Nexight Group?
A: I had the opportunity to meet a few Nexight employees before I began my job search, and they had nothing but incredible things to say about the company. The collaborative environment and dynamic staff also attracted me to the position. Ultimately, the ability to cultivate relationships with, work with, and learn from such talented people is what made Nexight feel like the perfect fit for me.
Q: Why did you pursue a career in professional consulting?
A: I was looking to branch out of academia and start a career in a place where I could have an impact on society. After years of working on a project that will only be read by a handful of people, I realized I wanted to do more meaningful work. It wasn’t until I learned about Nexight that I became interested in consulting. I was attracted to the idea of solving problems and generating innovative solutions. I wanted to work in a place that challenges me to be analytical and creative on a daily basis.
Q: What are you most looking forward to about your new role at Nexight?
A: I am most looking forward to learning about the policy dilemmas facing our clients and how I can help my colleagues meet their clients’ needs.
