Nexight Group is happy to welcome Andrew Richardson to the team as a new Research and Communications Analyst. Andrew has an MS in Biological Sciences from the University of Maryland at College Park and a broad background in biomedical science research with an emphasis in cell biology and molecular genetics. We sat down with Andrew to ask him a few questions about himself, his views, and his new role at Nexight.
Q: Tell us a little about yourself.
A: I’m a recovering academic with a strong background in basic biological research—including experimental design, data analysis and visualization, technical writing and editing, and project management—in fields as diverse as embryology, behavioral ecology, and cancer genomics. I enjoy cultivating an expansive knowledge base which allows me to integrate new ideas quickly into a broader conceptual framework. In addition to my time in academia, I also have experience working with federal agencies, professional organizations, and collaborative efforts between these three areas.
I’ve lived in the DC area since 2012, but spent my formative years in St. Louis, Missouri. Beyond professional endeavors, I enjoy reading novels, other people’s pets, and forming very strong opinions about transit and pedestrian etiquette.
Q: Why did you decide to join Nexight Group?
A: What drew me to Nexight was the emphasis on professional growth and allowing employees to explore their fullest potential. Curiosity and innovation are some of the core values shared by everyone at Nexight, which I believe are fundamental both to creating an engaging work environment and ensuring the highest quality product for our clients.
Q: Why did you pursue a career in professional consulting?
A: Given that I’m a researcher first and foremost, consulting to me simply felt like the natural next step to follow my passions outside of the laboratory environment. While science is my first love, consulting allows me to go beyond the pursuit of knowledge and bring my skills and experience to bear on projects that can directly benefit clients and the wider world.
Q: What are you most looking forward to about your new role at Nexight?
A: With everything going on at Nexight, I really feel like a kid in a candy store with all of the different opportunities available to me. I’m extremely eager to start contributing to the great work happening here.
